Richard Pierse is the creator of WinSolve, a software for solving a wide range of dynamic macroeconomic models. Today retired, Richard Pierse has worked at the National Institute for Economic and Social Research (NIESR), at University of Cambridge, and the University of Surrey (see his personal homepage for the full bio).
In this interview, Richard Pierse recalls his early interest in computing, in the era of mainframe computers. He trained as an econometrician at the London School of Economics.Â
Richard Pierse developed WinSolve as a Windows program in the mid-1990s. In this interview, he recalls the context of his project, and the programming choices he has made. He has since continued to develop WinSolve, which came to be adopted also by several policymaking institutions.
